The Bush is a Utility Item in Fortnite: Battle Royale that was added in Season 1.

Functionality

The Bush applies a bush disguise to the player, reducing their visibility in open areas. It does not restrict any actions, allowing the player to perform any actions while equipped. For the wearer, the Bush appears partially transparent so it does not obstruct their vision.

The disguise breaks if the player takes any damage, except from Storm or fall damage. When triggered, it absorbs the incoming hit, including sniper headshots, functioning as a single-use shield.

Strategy Guide

• The Bush should always be equipped when found due to the protection that it provides against damage.
• Due to its large model, users should be cautious when using the bush while hiding in a building as it could clip through structures and potentially reveal your location. Additionally, an enemy player could shoot at the part of the bush that is visible and break it.

• The Bush was present for almost the entirety of Chapter 1, before being vaulted for the following 5 chapters, only making its first reappearance in Chapter 7.
  • This is likely due to the introduction of Large Bushes and Hideouts in Chapter 2: Season 1; these served as far more effective hiding spots and rendered the smaller bushes, and therefore the Bush item, obsolete. Additionally, the Big Bush Bomb, which spawns a large bush, acts as a successor to the Bush item, returning on multiple occasions following its introduction in Chapter 4.
• You must stand still while applying the Bush, making it one of the few remaining consumable items that cannot be consumed while moving.
• There is currently an issue where the Bush does not always absorb damage while it is being worn. Due to an oversight, this issue was only fixed for the Season OG Version during Season OG, and not the Chapter 1 variant.
• The Bush being unvaulted during Chapter 7: Season 1 is likely a reference to the Super Bowl LX Halftime Show, which notably featured actors in bush costumes.^[1]
